Oblivion Remastered’s emergence onto Steam from the shadow-drop sewers has produced impressive numbers, as nostalgic criminal scum flock back to Cyrodiil

As it tunrs out, plenty of people are interested in playing a revamped version of something most of them likely sunk thousands of hours into years ago. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered shadow-dropped yesterday and its initial player number peak on Steam has instantly leapfrogged all but one of 2025’s other single player releases so far.

It’s not a complete picture because it’s just one storefront on one platform, but regardless, it’s a strong start with a chance to get better once the weekend hits.

According to SteamDB, Oblivion Remastered’s 24-hour player number peak sits at 182,298 and there are just over 70,000 folks exploring Cyrodiil right now as I write this.

How does that stack up? Well, it’s a higher peak for the last 24 hours than Baldur’s Gate 3, which is enjoying a nice post-Patch 8 bump of its own, only trailing behemoths Counter-Strike 2, PUBG: Battlegrounds, and Dota 2 in that time frame.

Meanwhile, comparing it to the Steam player peaks of other games that’ve come out in 2025 so far, it sits seventh, with only Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 of the games that sit ahead of it being totally single player. KCD2 boasts a peak of just over 256,000 players, for context.

While we don’t know any numbers for other platforms or sales numbers yet, it’s a strong start for Oblivion on PC. Especially given the game dropped right onto the PC and Ultimate versions of Xbox Game Pass, plus the fact a lack of modding for the original on consoles has likely served to galvanise interest in it on Series X/S and PS5.

People like excuses to dive back into old things they have fond memories of, I dunno what to tell you.

Have you played the Oblivion remaster yet, and if so what do you think if it so far? How many JAWS OF OBLIVION have you CLOSED SHUT? Let us know below!
